Roberto Martínez Pérez
Roberto has been a legal counsel for the University of Valladolid (UVa), and has worked as a lawyer at well-known Spanish Law firms. More recently, he has been a member of the Litigation practice at Clifford Chance’s office in Madrid.
As a trial lawyer he has taken part in the legal defence and management of important cases in different industries (telecommunications, venture capital, banking, insurance, M&A operations, transport, distribution, automobile industry, construction, hospitality, etc.).
He has substantial experience with breach-of-contract claims of all sorts as well as with the termination and rescission of agreements, unfair competition, agency agreements, distribution agreements, and proceedings to enforce foreign court and arbitral decisions in Spain.
The Distinguished Professional Lawyers Association of Madrid (ICAM), and Correspondent Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation (RAJYL).
The blood of Spanish hero El Cid runs through Roberto’s veins and makes him a thoroughbred litigator who combines a profound knowledge of the field, also a consequence of his teaching experience, with his passion for litigating. Going to court is not just routine; he puts on his war paint.
His time with Clifford Chance and his interaction with international clients have enabled him to handle very different scenarios with confidence and to appear before all types of Courts.
He studied at the University of Valladolid (UVa), where he earned his doctorate after spending some time at the University of Bologna’s School of Law.
Teaching, publications, lectures
Professor of Procedural Law at the University of Valladolid (1989-1999).
He has worked as a guest lecturer at the Comillas Pontifical University – ICADE, the International Business School Aliter, the School of Higher Education of University Foundation San Pablo CEU and the School of Higher Education in Public Security of Studies in Security (ISES) of the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
He is the author of several publications, notably his contribution to the collaborative project Análisis del Régimen General de la Competencia Desleal y la Publicidad, llevada a cabo por la Ley 29/2009, de 30 de diciembre (Analysis of the General Scheme of Advertising and Unfair Competition, implemented by Law 29/2009 of 30 December) Madrid, 2011; Introducción a la Nueva Ley de Enjuiciamiento Civil (Introduction to the New Act on Civil Procedure) Barcelona, 2001, as well as his dissertation on Policía Judicial y Constitución (Judicial Police and Constitution) Madrid, 2001.
He has participated as a speaker on various legal subjects in conferences in Spain and Italy.
Professor in the Master’s Degree for accessing the legal profession at the Comillas Pontifical University – ICADE.
