Experience

Juan Sánchez Corzo is a partner at LIFE Abogados and has more than thirty years’ experience advising companies, business owners, shareholders and directors. His practice combines corporate and commercial advice, business litigation, and restructuring and insolvency matters, enabling him to take a cross-disciplinary approach to both corporate transactions and situations involving disputes or financial distress.

He began his professional career in 1994 and, before joining LIFE Abogados, worked at Brosa, Foro Legal and Fieldfisher, where he gained broad-based experience across different departments and practice areas.

He regularly advises companies, business owners, shareholders and directors on corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations and structural modifications, shareholders’ agreements and commercial contracts. His experience in this field enables him to assist clients both in the negotiation and structuring of transactions and in disputes arising from their implementation.

He also has extensive experience in civil and commercial litigation, particularly in contractual and shareholder disputes, directors’ liability, unfair competition, and the enforcement of contractual obligations and court judgments.

A significant part of his practice is devoted to advising companies facing financial difficulties. He acts in restructuring and insolvency matters, advising companies, directors, shareholders and creditors in insolvency proceedings and pre-insolvency situations, and has also acted as an insolvency administrator.

His practice also has a strong international dimension, covering transactions and contracts as well as proceedings and disputes with cross-border elements. He also has particularly close professional ties with Italy.

In recent years, he has advised Spanish corporate groups on their international expansion across Europe, Africa and the Americas, working with an established network of local advisers, and has also assisted foreign companies with their establishment and operations in Spain, particularly in the construction, energy and furniture sectors.

Professional memberships

Member of the international lawyers’ network AIGLI since 2018.

Profile

Juan takes a cross-disciplinary approach to business law. His experience has taught him that a commercial matter rarely falls neatly within a single area of law: a corporate transaction may lead to a shareholder dispute; a contract may give rise to litigation; and a financial crisis may require a combination of corporate, financial, insolvency and procedural solutions. All of this also requires careful consideration of the tax implications that cut across many business decisions.

For this reason, his approach starts with understanding the client’s business, the specific circumstances of the matter and the interests at stake before proposing a legal solution.

He regards teamwork and a direct relationship with the client as essential elements of legal advice. His aim is to identify the issue correctly, assess the available alternatives and help the client make a decision and implement it effectively.

His main areas of practice are Corporate and Commercial Law, M&A and commercial contracts, Commercial Litigation and Arbitration, and Restructuring and Insolvency.

Education

Law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 1994.

Since qualifying, he has undertaken continuous professional development in areas related to the business world, including white-collar criminal law, accounting, shareholder disputes, mediation and various aspects of civil and commercial litigation.

In recent years, he has placed particular emphasis on keeping fully up to date with Restructuring and Insolvency Law, an area subject to constant legislative and case-law developments.
